The ATP, which governs the ATP Challenger Tour, the ATP Tour, and the ATP Champions Tour, is a world regulatory organisation for men's professional tennis.

Jack Kramer, Donald Dell, and Cliff Drysdale founded it in 1972 to defend the rights of pro tennis athletes, with Drysdale serving as the inaugural President. The ATP Circuit, the men's global tennis tour, has been organised by the organisation since 1990, and also the tour's title has been connected to the organisation's title. Men's professional tennis is overseen by this organisation.

The organisation was known as the ATP Tour in 1990, but it was changed to ATP in 2001, and also the ATP Tour was introduced in that year. The tour was renamed the ATP World Tour in 2009, however by 2019 it had been renamed the ATP Tour. This is an upgrade from the Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis events that were recognised as the standard for the sport (WCT). London is home to the ATP's world headquarters. ATP Americas, the American branch of the corporation, is located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; ATP Europe, the European branch, is situated in Monaco; and ATP International, which oversees Asia, Africa, and Australasia, is located in Sydney, Australia.

Because the annual tennis schedule may be fairly complicated, we have broken down the ATP World Tour and explained the various levels and events for you.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing organisation for the three men's pro tennis circuits.

Tournaments on the ATP Tour

The ATP Tour is divided into three sections: ATP 250, ATP 500, ATP Masters 1000. The ATP is also in charge of the ATP Challenger Tour, which is a lower-level version of the ATP Tour, as well as the ATP Champions Tour, which is for seniors. Grand Slam tournaments, a minor section of the Olympic tennis championship, the Hopman Cup, the Davis Cup, and the entry-level Futures competitions are not governed by the ATP, but rather by the ITF and the IOC. However, save for the Olympics and the Hopman Cup, ATP ranking points are given out in these tournaments. The ITF Satellite events, which lasted four weeks, were terminated in 2007.

The players as well as doubles groups with the highest ranking scores (accumulated over the calendar year) compete in the season-ending ATP Finals. This was co-hosted by the ITF from 2000 to 2008. The professional tennis tour is comprised of the following elements:

ATP world rankings

The ATP releases weekly rankings of professional tennis players in two formats: the ATP Rankings (often referred to as the 'world rankings'), which is a 52-week rolling rating, and the ATP Race to London, which is a year-to-date ranking. The head-to-head records of ATP players are taken into account while calculating their Universal Tennis Rating.

In all events, including singles and doubles, the ATP Rankings are utilised to determine qualifying and seeding. Points are earned during the course of the previous year in the ATP Rankings, with the exemption of those for the ATP Finals, which have their points deducted after the year's last ATP tournament. The number one in the world for the year is the individual with the highest points at the end of the regular season.

The ATP Race To London, which is a calendar-year indication about what the Emirates ATP Ratings will be when the regular season ends. The ATP Finals are open to the leading 8 players in the Emirates ATP Rankings after the Paris Masters.
