Patrick Vieira and Jesse Marsch are two passionate managers who shouldn’t be placed in the same room. While they are sure to discuss football, one never knows when that conversation will turn into arguments. And if there is a time and place for that, it could be on Sunday when they face each other.
With an old rivalry in the making, Marsch and Vieira are two famous football managers who want their teams to run, secure position and the do the obvious, i.e. score a goal. In the midst of all that, they could very well face cruel decisions from the referees and VAR because every manager seems to disagree with them so far.
So how will things develop on Sunday? Let’s go through a small preview and try to find out more.
The period between now and the World Cup is surely a memorable one. There are no breaks because football cannot stop at the moment. It has to be going because if it does, something known as fixture congestion will turn up if it hasn’t already been the case.
Due to that, we have some top-class teams meeting face to face in this week’s Premier League football. For starters, you have Manchester City vs Southampton, Brighton vs Tottenham, Arsenal vs Liverpool and of course, Crystal Palace vs Leeds United.
It’s going to be an action packed weekend of football and missing out on any of these games will surely leave you disappointed. So make a schedule and be prepared to see the big guns face other big guns or underdogs, however, you would like to put it.
Crystal Palace vs Leeds United in game week 9 is scheduled to take place at Selhurst Park Stadium on the 9th of October.
From old MLS rivals to Premier League rivals, Marsch and Vieira have surely come a long way. They have managed different teams and have put different kinds of tactics in order to outsmart the other.
As former coaches of New York City and New York Red Bulls, their rivalry was an intense one that was full of surprises. And now that they are in the Premier League, fans have gotten to see what their commitment to the game and to each other really is.
While the Vieira-Palace project has been a successful one, it is not one without problems and the same could be said about Marsch and Leeds. However, the American only arrived towards the tail end of last season and did a wonderful job in keeping Leeds up.
But now he has to add on to that. Having spent close to €100m in the transfer window, Marsch has a team of his liking and one that is close to his vision. On the other hand, Vieira did get the players that he wanted with a few exceptions. However, injuries seem to be the norm at Palace and that could backfire when they host Leeds.
It all depends on their talisman Wilfred Zaha, who was a threat to Leeds the last time they faced each other. While that battle was between Zaha and Ayling, this time around it could be between Zaha and Kristenson.
With Zaha known to invite fouls and Leeds known to easily give them, we could be in for a treat when these two sides meet. While both have some degree of attacking talent, the defense portion is something that Palace will have to work on.
The London club has already shipped in 11 goals but to their defense, they have played games against Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and more and were quite impressive against these teams. While they did lose it, they had plenty going forward with their attacking forwards creating chances one after the other.
As a result, we can expect to see a similar approach when Leeds arrive at Selhurst Park. But the Leeds press is what Vieira has to deal with. A high intense style of play is what Marsch demands and with that, he has already got the better of Vieira in their previous encounters.
However, one cannot dismiss the tactical brain of Vieira because he knows how to switch play and make changes whenever required. So be ready for a tight affair because both these clubs have always offered us classic games that are hard to miss.
Crystal Palace haven’t been the best team at home and there are several reasons for it. They miss a creative midfielder like Gallagher and other managers seem to have understood how Vieira plays.
But the main reasons for the drop could also be attributed to the teams they have faced. Arsenal, Chelsea and Brentford were some of the teams in fine form that Palace had to welcome home.
Thanks to that, the result wasn’t what they would have expected. However, Aston Villa was a different story and Leeds could be heading towards a similar path. If Palace controls the Leeds pressure and scores early, things could be different for the London club.

Having played three games away from home, the results aren’t heading the Yorkshire club's way and that could be a worrying factor when they travel to Crystal Palace. While they did have a good start at Southampton, lack of smart substitutions and defensive errors led them to settle for a draw.
Up next, they faced Brighton, who on current form was a bigger task for the Yorkshire club. And at Brentford, the story was different. While they did have moments in the game, they managed to give possession to Brentford at some of the worst times.
As a result, it was a frustrating evening for Leeds United who couldn’t get anything from the game. Moreover, their rate of fouls is pretty high and that could be another factor that will affect them sooner or later.
With Sinisterra serving a one match ban, the Columbian winger is set to miss this game. However, Marsch has replacements in sight and if they work, the Yorkshire club could get off to a good start.
Improving their form away from home has to be their next assignment and Jesse Marsch has to get prepared for the same.

There have been 10 games between these clubs in the Premier League and 2 of them have ended as draws. The reason behind having only 10 games could be credited to these clubs being away from the Premier League.
Both the Eagles and Whites were not part of the Premier League for close to a decade or so and have done some really hard work to get here. Thanks to that, their aim will be to remain here and continue cementing their position as a Premier League club.

In terms of their head-to-head stat, it is clear who is leading the race. Leeds have won two more games than their London rival and one of those games was in 1998. Due to that, you know the brief history that both these clubs share and how important this clash is to each other.
So heading into this clash on Sunday, both these clubs and their respective managers will do everything necessary to get the three points and move up the table. Palace will be aiming to get out of their slump as they are currently in 17th position.
Despite Leeds struggling to stay up in the Premier League during the majority of last season, they managed to stay unbeaten against Crystal Palace. A win and a draw are what they received and thus managed to get four points out of the total of 6.

The first game that both these teams played was at Elland Road and it was an intense clash. The evening had all the right pieces for a clash like no other and as always Leeds only scored in the last minute.
A Raphinha penalty saved the Yorkshire club as they managed to secure all three points during extra time. Sending the keeper in the wrong direction, the former Leeds United winger scored the winner and sent Elland Road into a frenzy.

When it came time for the second clash between these two clubs in the previous season, Leeds had a new coach in the technical area. Marsch was in charge of the club and came face to face with his former rival, Patrick Vieira.
Selhurst Park was witness to a goalless clash as both teams failed to get things going. However, they did have shots on target and some smart blocks came from Leeds United's young keeper, Illan Meslier.
Meslier made over 7 saves and thus was judged the man of the match. His performance caught the attention of everyone which is another reason why so many clubs across Europe are linked to the French keeper.
