Manchester United got off to a sluggish start at home against Brighton. They looked half-asleep in the opening minutes and struggled to get going.
The Red Devils were sloppy in possession early on and gave the ball away too easily. Brighton took advantage and controlled play with their crisp passing.
This sleepy beginning from United was an ominous sign. The team lacked energy and focus right when they needed it most.
Former United player Danny Welbeck came back to haunt his old team by opening the scoring for Brighton.
He got free behind United's defense and rolled the ball into the net after a nice pass from his teammate. You could see it hurt Welbeck a bit to score against his old side.
But his goal was just reward for Brighton's bright start. United's defenders failed to track Welbeck's dangerous run.
Right after the goal, United finally woke up and started playing with urgency. They came close to an immediate equalizer.
Rashford raced free on the left and bent a shot off a defender that hit the post! It was nearly 1-1 but De Gea got a lucky break. Rashford couldn't believe his bad luck.
Later on, United thought they had scored when new signing Hojlund fired home after a Rashford cross.
But VAR correctly ruled it out for offside. Replays showed the ball going out of play right before Rashford crossed it. So close for United but no goal.
Being denied by VAR was a blow, but even worse was United's lack of fight after Welbeck's goal.
The Red Devils looked lost and desperate, not playing with any rhythm. Meanwhile, Brighton kept passing circles around United.
The team showed no heart or toughness. Fans started booing as hopes of a comeback faded. A poor display.
Burnley manager Kompany mixed up his squad with several new faces against Forest. It took a bit for the new-look Clarets to find their rhythm and chemistry together.
They weren't as sharp in possession as usual for the first half hour or so. Forest did well to disrupt their flow during this spell.
The nonstop Burnley pressure finally paid off when youngster Amdouni scored a beauty to put them ahead.
He latched onto a pass into the box and rifled a low shot into the corner before the keeper could react. Top-class technique from the 19-year-old!
You could feel Burnley's belief surge after that moment of brilliance unlocked a cagey game.
But you could feel the tide turn after Amdouni's sizzling opener. Burnley started playing with confidence and energy, buzzing all over the pitch.
They were first to every ball suddenly, pinning Forest in their own end for long stretches. The Clarets looked dangerous and dominant all half after the goal.
Just when it looked bleak, new signing Hudson-Odoi came up huge for Forest with a picture-perfect equalizer.
He had time on the edge of the box and bent a stunning curler into the far side netting. The Chelsea loanee announced himself in style!
His golazo lifted Forest and brought the home crowd alive. What a valuable contribution.
Burnley thought they had won it late when Foster finished off a slick passing move. But VAR judged there was a handball in the build-up.
Foster was fuming about the decision. But by the letter of the law, it was the right call.
He was arguing it was ball-to-hand and that he had controlled it cleanly with his chest. A cruel break for the Clarets.
In the end, Forest escaped with a point thanks to aid from VAR. A lifeline!
Despite the painful ending, manager Kompany had to be pleased with Burnley's lively showing. They badly needed signs of life after a poor start.
Amdouni looks like a real prospect, and the Clarets played spirited two-way football for most of the match.
If they build on this, Burnley's fortunes could soon improve. The breaks just didn't go their way on the day.
