Tottenham Vs West Ham: The Race for European Football is Boiling
Football, Premier League

The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world for a reason. It has a title challenge at the top, a race for the top four with nearly five teams in line and a relegation battle that has around 6 teams looking to survive in the league. It is an all-action league and there are hardly any disappointments, except if your team is on the losing side.
The excitement and thrill that the league brings forward can be felt with every passing game and our preview focuses on one fixture in particular. Conte’s energised Spurs and Moyes’s ever-impressive West Ham. With both teams looking for European football, this fixture could be a deciding factor.
It’s Matchday 30 of 38
Tottenham and West Ham’s fixtures enter matchday 30 of 38 and it is safe to say that the following gameweeks are some of the most important ones for both these teams. Following Liverpool vs Arsenal, where Liverpool scored 2 goals and made Pep consider his title, this is another crucial fixture set to decide things for both clubs.
While both managers have the experience to take their teams into European contention, it is quite clear that Antonio Conte has a better CV. Whether or not that will be enough is still there to see.
When and where will this fixture take place?
Tottenham and West Ham United will face each other on the 20th of March and the fixture will be held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It’s Antonio Conte vs David Moyes
Both Tottenham and West Ham are heading into this fixture after having successfully beaten Brighton and Aston Villa respectively. Their form has been more or less the same, which is one of the main reasons why they are level on points. While Spurs seem to have the edge here, it is hard to disregard West Ham, especially when you consider that they beat Tottenham in the reverse fixture.
However, last time out, it wasn’t Anotonio Conte who was in the dugout but his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo. So the playing style, formation and defensive formation will be different, something that West Ham need to be ready for. Conte’s 3-5-2 or even his 3-4-2-1 could be relied upon as it works well on the counter-attack.
Moreover, West Ham will look to unleash Michail Antonio, leaving life a little difficult for the Spurs' defensive lineup. But on the other end, we have the attacking quality of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and more, who could easily be an offensive lineup that people consider while looking into football betting.
The turnaround that Spurs have had under Conte seems to be the firing point that could get them past West Ham, although David Moyes could have a say or two on the matter. While Spurs have scored a total of 44 goals and conceded 35 so far, West Ham have scored a total of 48 and conceded 36.
So the similarities go a long way despite Spurs having a game in hand. While both teams could be looking for Champions League qualification, it is safe to say that at least one of them will have to settle for the Europa League. While West Ham are currently in the round of 16 for the Europa League, Spurs don’t have similar commitments.
So the focus will be on the Premier League and what Antonio Conte can make out of this team. His honest interviews have been eye-opening but fans were not surprised to see a world-class manager being fed up with how a football club like Tottenham is being run. However, if Spurs wish to return to their former glory and if they wish to keep Conte happy, they need to continue winning.
Tottenham Vs West Ham: Head-to-Head
Tottenham and West Ham have played a total of 51 games in the Premier League where 10 have become draws. While Tottenham leads the charge, they are not ahead by a great number because West Ham have caught up with them. As a result, there are a number of aspects pointing out towards this fixture being interesting.

West Ham’s away record could be a matter of concern here because they don’t seem to be doing well at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Reverse Fixture
West Ham vs Tottenham (1-0)
As mentioned earlier, Spurs did not do well in the reverse fixture as they lost to a 72nd-minute goal by Michail Antonio. While both teams had the same number of shots on target, it was West Ham that made the most tackles and ultimately took the game forward. Since both teams were into the game, it was disheartening to see a 72nd-minute goal decide the rest of the fixture.
Results from the Previous Season
West Ham vs Tottenham (2-1)
Results from the previous season for this fixture ended with another Tottenham defeat as West Ham got the better of them at home. As always, it was Antonio who opened the chapter on goals, followed by Jesse Lingard at the 47th minute.
Tottenham vs West Ham (3-3)
The last time West Ham visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they were drawn to a 6 goal thriller that ended up being a game for the ages. While the first half was dominated by Spurs, little did they know that West Ham would make a comeback. An own goal by Sanchez and a Lanzini goal at extra time (90+4) was all that it took for West Ham to level.
